This year the West Virginia Bar Foundation has reached significant milestones thanks to the support of individuals like you. We’ve worked diligently to uphold our mission of improving the administration of justice and enhancing the legal profession in West Virginia, as well as improving the internal management of the organization.
This year the Foundation distributed grants totaling $75,086 in support of a wide spectrum of qualifying entities. Cumulatively, since 1988, the Foundation has issued $634,394 in grants.
These accomplishments are only possible through the generosity of our supporters and the volunteer work of the Foundation's Board of Directors and participating Fellows.
Highlights of 2024:
- Continued the Foundation's signature events: the 26th Annual Fellows Dinner at which 17 new Fellows were inducted; Lunch with a Legal Legend honoring WVU College of Law Professor Marjorie McDiarmid (including donating $4,607 to her charity of choice from donations raised in connection with the luncheon); and the Lawyer Leadership Institute at which 11 promising young lawyers received invaluable professional and community service leadership training.
- Funded the Larry V. Starcher Public Service Scholarship granting a full scholarship in the amount of $26,586 to 3L student Aryanna Islam.
- Completed the final of three annual pledged payments of $5,000 to help fund the Courts Learning Center under the auspices of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.
